Giveaway details + how to enter

A custom sports car can be exciting to own, but its purchase price is only the beginning of the decision. Insurance, storage, inspection, registration and ongoing service all deserve a place in the budget. A distinctive vehicle may also require questions that would be easy to overlook when comparing ordinary everyday transport.

Hoonigan’s separate RWB giveaway offers a custom Porsche 997 plus $35,000 to one winner and a wheel-and-tire package to a second winner. No purchase is necessary through its postal method. The full instructions follow this guide to evaluating the practical costs of a special-interest car.

Understand the particular vehicle before comparing prices

Start with the exact vehicle rather than the reputation of the model family. Ask for the year, identification details, condition information and a description of the work performed. A familiar badge does not identify every feature or change on a custom car. Keep the answers in writing so you can distinguish confirmed information from assumptions made while looking at photographs.

Review available service and modification records. Ask who performed the work, what documentation is available and whether any further inspection or adjustment is recommended. A professional assessment can help you investigate concerns that cannot be resolved from an online description. Arrange that assessment independently when considering a purchase and understand what the inspection will cover.

Describe how you intend to use the car. Occasional events, weekend driving and daily commuting can involve different practical needs. Consider passenger space, storage, parking access and the routes you normally travel. A vehicle can be appealing as a hobby while being an inconvenient replacement for the transport your household relies on every day.

Use the NHTSA recall lookup as one part of checking a vehicle. Review the instructions for the identification information you have and follow up on any relevant result. A recall search addresses a specific question; it does not replace a mechanical inspection or establish that every modification is suitable for your intended use.

Keep unanswered questions visible before committing money. A missing record is a reason to seek clarification, not an invitation to fill the gap with an optimistic assumption. For a prize vehicle, ask the sponsor for the confirmation and acceptance information you need. A published approximate retail value is not a complete condition report.

Budget for insurance, collection and the place the car will live

Obtain information about insurance for the actual car and intended use. Give the insurer accurate details about modifications and any other information it requests. Ask what coverage is available and which conditions apply before assuming an existing policy will handle the vehicle in the way you expect. Compare current written terms rather than relying on a general estimate from another owner.

Consider the practical storage arrangement. Measure access to the garage or parking space and think about security, weather exposure and any rules that apply to the location. If separate storage is needed, obtain a quote and include it in the ownership plan. A car that fits the final space may still be difficult to move through the route leading to it.

Check the costs associated with receiving and registering the vehicle. Delivery, collection travel, title work, registration and other required expenses may be handled by different parties. Ask who is responsible for each item. Do not treat the fact that a vehicle is a prize as proof that every acceptance and ownership expense is included.

Use a hypothetical comparison to organize the figures. If a proposed ownership plan includes $200 per month for one ongoing cost and $100 for another, those two items alone total $3,600 over a year. The example is arithmetic, not a quote for this Porsche or a prediction of anyone’s insurance cost. Replace it with actual information relevant to your circumstances.

Retain a separate list of one-time and recurring costs. It is easy to notice a delivery invoice and overlook expenses that continue after the car arrives. Review the full plan alongside the household transport budget. Owning a hobby vehicle should be a deliberate choice that accounts for the other travel needs you still have.

Check service, equipment and modification questions

Find out where the vehicle could be serviced and what information a qualified shop would need to assess it. Ask about relevant experience with the model and the documented modifications. Confirm the scope and cost of an inspection before booking. A distinctive build can deserve a more specific conversation than a generic service-menu price provides.

Review the condition and specifications of tires, wheels and other equipment with an appropriate professional. Fitment, installation and ongoing care are practical questions to resolve for the actual vehicle. Avoid ordering a component simply because it is advertised for a broad model range. Keep the written specification and any installation quote together.

If you are considering a wheel-and-tire package, itemize the services beyond the parts. Mounting, balancing, sensors or other work may be separate. Ask what is included in the quote and what would be needed for your particular car. An advertised package value is not the same as a completed, ready-to-use installation cost.

Confirm applicable local inspection and registration requirements with the relevant authority before relying on a custom vehicle for road use. Hoonigan’s rules specifically warn that its prize vehicle may not satisfy safety or emissions testing in every state or county. The article does not determine that question for any particular location; a potential winner needs to resolve it before accepting.

Keep a service plan that fits the manufacturer’s and specialist’s guidance for the actual build. Save records of work completed and questions requiring follow-up. Avoid promising a particular maintenance cost or resale outcome based on the prize’s advertised value. The useful goal is understanding what you are taking responsibility for.

Read the free postal entry and the two different prizes

Hoonigan’s first prize is a one-of-one RWB Porsche 997 built by Akira Nakai plus $35,000, with a combined stated value of $135,000. The second winner receives four Rotiform wheels and four Yokohama tires, valued at $6,000. These are separate awards, making a total advertised pool of $141,000 rather than a $141,000 cash prize.

The no-purchase route uses a handwritten card or paper in an individually mailed business envelope. Each valid ordinary request earns 50 entries. Bonus periods have their own postmark and labeling requirements. The full instructions are below; do not assume a displayed shopping multiplier applies to an envelope posted on a different date.

The rules prohibit automated or bulk entry services. Complete your own entry and mail it separately with the required information and postage. A numeric overall entry ceiling is not stated in the published rules, but that does not authorize automated requests or false identities. Review the current sponsor instructions before preparing additional requests.

The vehicle and parts are awarded as is. The sponsor covers vehicle delivery if required, but the winner remains responsible for the other specified ownership expenses. Installation and related services are excluded from the wheel-and-tire prize. A potential vehicle winner also needs a valid U.S. driver’s license and must complete the sponsor’s transfer and verification requirements.

Freebie Mom Entry Tickets are separate from Hoonigan’s entries. Scrolling or claiming those tickets does not mail a card, enter this drawing or improve sponsor odds. The final button opens the sponsor’s instructions; you must prepare and send your own qualifying request before the postal deadlines.
