Giveaway details + how to enter
A holiday spending plan works best when it covers the whole season rather than one grocery trip or gift purchase. Meals, travel, celebrations and ordinary bills can overlap in the same month. Clear priorities and a calendar of expected costs make it easier to decide what fits without relying on a hoped-for bonus or prize.
Angel’s separate HERSHEY Movie Thanksgiving Giveaway offers one $20,000 cash prize. Travel is optional, and a no-purchase postcard method is available. It opens November 1. The complete postal instructions follow this guide to organizing a holiday budget around the money and commitments you actually have.
List the events and costs that matter to your household
Begin with the dates you already know. Include family gatherings, travel plans, school events and ordinary payment deadlines that fall during the holiday season. A calendar can reveal expenses that compete for the same week’s money even when the overall monthly total looks manageable. Keep uncertain invitations or plans marked as tentative.
Make a separate list of the costs associated with each event. A meal at home may involve ingredients, supplies and transport for guests; a trip may need tickets, accommodation and local travel. Do not assume another household will cover a shared expense without discussing it. Clear arrangements help everyone budget from the same information.
Give each planned expense an amount based on actual prices or a reasonable estimate you can later check. Keep the source of the estimate with it, such as a current menu, shopping list or travel quote. Mark any figure that still needs research. That makes the plan easier to revise without treating guesses as confirmed costs.
The CFPB’s Your Money, Your Goals toolkit includes worksheets for bills, spending and goals. Choose a simple tool that helps answer the question in front of you. You do not need an elaborate system to notice that several important costs fall before the next income payment.
Discuss priorities with the people sharing the budget. A traditional activity may be important to one person while another assumes it is optional. Agree on the parts you want to keep and where the plan can change. A useful holiday budget reflects the household’s decisions rather than a generic checklist of things everyone supposedly needs to buy.
Build a grocery and gift plan that includes the checkout total
For a holiday meal, start with the number of people and the dishes you intend to serve. Check the supplies already available before building a shopping list. Plan quantities from the actual recipes and group rather than buying a broad assortment simply because seasonal displays are prominent. Keep optional extras separate while pricing the main meal.
Compare the exact package sizes and usable quantities. A larger pack may suit the plan, or it may leave food you cannot use or store conveniently. The relevant comparison is the amount you will actually buy and use. Avoid assuming that an advertised discount improves the budget if it requires purchasing more than you needed.
For gifts, set a limit by person or exchange within the total you have chosen. Include wrapping, delivery or other expected costs where they apply. If you plan to make a gift, price the needed materials as carefully as a finished product. A handmade option can be thoughtful without automatically being the least expensive choice.
Use the final checkout figure when comparing options. A hypothetical $40 item with $8 of necessary delivery costs uses $48 of the budget before other applicable charges. Those are example numbers, not a current offer. Record the actual total paid so later decisions are based on completed spending rather than the original advertised price.
Review the list before adding another purchase. Check whether the item fills a planned need and whether something similar has already been bought. If an attractive offer does not fit the current budget, keep it as an idea rather than treating the promotion itself as a new obligation. A plan is useful only when it helps you make choices.
Keep travel commitments and a cash cushion visible
If travel is part of the season, compare the whole itinerary. Include getting to and from the departure point, accommodation and the expenses you expect at the destination. Check the actual payment and cancellation conditions before booking. A low initial price can still create a commitment that is difficult to change.
Separate confirmed bookings from proposed plans. Write down payment dates and any remaining balance for the confirmed items. For a proposal, keep the current quote and the deadline for making a decision. This prevents the same money from being mentally allocated to several different plans at once.
Retain a clearly recorded amount for ordinary bills and the practical uncertainties you want to prepare for. The right amount depends on your household; this guide does not prescribe a universal reserve. The important step is making the allocation visible rather than allowing seasonal spending to use money intended for another responsibility.
If additional money genuinely arrives, review any conditions attached to it and the amount actually available before changing the plan. A prize, bonus and refund can involve different requirements. Keep the paperwork and ask an appropriately qualified adviser about questions specific to your circumstances. Do not estimate an individual tax obligation from a promotional headline.
Return to the calendar after a substantial purchase or booking. Replace estimates with actual payments and revisit the remaining choices. A holiday plan can change as information improves. Deliberate updates are more useful than preserving an unrealistic total until the season has ended and the missing expenses become clear.
Read the cash giveaway and prepare a qualifying postcard
The HERSHEY promotion offers one $20,000 award, payable by check or electronic transfer as the sponsor determines. Although the campaign refers to Thanksgiving travel, the official rules let the winner use the money for another purpose. The sponsor does not arrange a required New York trip, hotel stay or other travel package.
The no-purchase method requires a handwritten standard 4-by-6-inch postcard with the specified personal details in the required order. There is no outer envelope. Each qualifying postcard earns 100 entries, with at most ten postcards and 1,000 entries overall across methods. Ticket purchases follow a different entry schedule, so they should not be described as automatically earning 100 entries each.
The promotion opens at midnight Pacific on November 1, equivalent to 2 a.m. Eastern that morning because of the daylight-saving change. Postmarks must fall within the promotion period. Follow the November 30 closing date and December 7 receipt deadline in the full instructions below. Postage is required even though no product purchase is necessary.
Eligibility is limited to adults who have reached their state’s legal age of majority, reside in the 50 states or District of Columbia, and are located in the eligible territory when entering. Prepare your own request using the official instructions. Buying tickets or a paid membership is not required for the postcard route.
Freebie Mom Entry Tickets are separate from Angel’s sweepstakes entries. Scrolling, reading and claiming our tickets do not send a postcard or enter this drawing. The final button provides the sponsor’s instructions; you must handwrite and mail your own qualifying entry. Keep any holiday spending commitments independent of the chance to win.
