Giveaway details + how to enter
A pet holiday gift budget works best when it starts with what your animal already uses. A favorite toy, an everyday treat or a comfortable place to rest can be a more useful choice than a large basket of unfamiliar products. Before adding anything to your cart, take a few minutes to check supplies, choose a spending limit and decide what would make daily life easier.
This guide helps you build that list without turning seasonal shopping into another large household expense. There is also a separate chance to receive a Chewy Claus surprise: the 2026 official rules list 14,000 pet goodie boxes. The giveaway details and your next steps are below. A submitted letter is a chance to be selected, not a promise that a package will arrive.
Build a pet holiday budget around real needs
Start by separating regular pet supplies from holiday extras. Food, litter and other routine purchases belong in the everyday household budget. A seasonal toy or gift is optional spending. Keeping those categories separate makes it easier to see whether a holiday purchase fits rather than quietly borrowing from money already assigned to essentials.
Write down a comfortable maximum before browsing. For example, a hypothetical $30 holiday allowance might cover one $15 toy, $10 in familiar treats and a $5 cushion for price differences. Those numbers are a planning exercise, not current product prices. Your total may be smaller, larger or zero, and a good holiday does not require matching someone else’s shopping haul.
Next, look through the supplies you already own. There may be an unopened treat package, a toy that was put away or a washable blanket that can be brought back into use. Note which items your pet actually enjoys and which sit untouched. That quick inventory helps you choose a useful replacement instead of buying another version of something that never worked.
For a home with several pets, list each animal’s preferences in one place. The household budget does not have to be divided into identical purchases. One animal may need a replacement everyday item while another already has plenty. Agree on the total with anyone else buying gifts so you do not accidentally duplicate orders or exceed the amount you planned.
Keep optional giveaway participation separate from these purchase decisions. Entering Chewy Claus does not require you to buy a toy, pay for an order or increase your shopping budget. A possible surprise can be a fun extra, but the supplies your pet needs should be planned independently of whether a sponsor selects your letter.
Compare toys and treats by usefulness, not bundle size
A large gift bundle is only a good fit if the items suit the animal receiving it. Make a short checklist before comparing products: the intended species, the manufacturer’s sizing information, the materials or ingredients, cleaning instructions and the type of interaction the product is designed for. Follow the product’s directions and any individual guidance you have already received for your pet.
For toys, think about your pet’s existing play preferences rather than the holiday packaging. Does your dog repeatedly choose a particular style? Does your cat enjoy interactive play more than objects left on the floor? Use those observations to narrow your list. A smaller selection that gets used is usually a more practical purchase than several items chosen only because they look festive.
Treat comparisons need the same attention. Check the actual package size and the serving information on the label. Compare similar products by weight or count where that makes sense, while keeping your pet’s normal routine in mind. A lower price for a much bigger package is not automatically useful if it is more than you want to store or use.
Avoid allowing a sale badge to make the decision for you. Put the item on a list, check whether you already have something comparable, then compare the complete order total. Shipping charges, minimum-spend requirements and extra items added to reach a threshold can change what looked like a small purchase. Count those additions in your holiday budget too.
Keep receipts and order confirmations until you have checked the delivered items. Review the seller’s return terms before ordering, particularly for seasonal merchandise or opened products. A clear record of what you bought, where you bought it and what it cost is easier to manage than several untracked orders arriving during a busy holiday week.
Make a wish list that reflects your own pet
A useful pet wish list explains the animal’s personality and everyday favorites. Start with a few simple observations: what your pet likes doing, what you enjoy together and which kinds of toys or treats already fit your routine. You do not need an elaborate story or an expensive dream item to describe the pet you know.
If the household has more than one animal, collect the details before opening a submission form. The current Chewy form begins with a pet name and pet type and offers an add-another-pet option. That does not change the official one-entry-per-person limit. Follow the form’s instructions within one submission rather than sending repeated letters under different email addresses.
Write in your own words. Chewy’s rules require an original submission and describe restrictions on material you do not have permission to use. A personal explanation about your pet is more appropriate than copying someone else’s social post or a sample letter. Before sending, reread the letter for the correct pet names and check the contact information you supplied.
Treat the confirmation carefully. A page acknowledging a submitted letter means the submission was received or processed as shown; it does not mean your pet has won. Save whatever confirmation the sponsor provides, then allow the stated selection and notification process to run. Repeated submissions are not a way to check status and can violate the entry limit.
Also distinguish the store’s holiday messages from the formal promotion rules. This year the Chewy landing page and rules show different opening dates. We explain that discrepancy in the entry section so you can check the sponsor’s current instructions before relying on an early submission. A visible form does not, by itself, resolve conflicting eligibility dates.
Include shelter giving without stretching your budget
Holiday giving can be part of your pet plan without becoming an unplanned shopping obligation. If you want to support a shelter, first look at its own current wish list and donation instructions. Requested items, accepted packaging and delivery arrangements can vary. Buying from an old screenshot may leave you with something the organization cannot use.
Set a separate giving amount if you intend to spend money. You might choose one requested item or contribute with another household, but decide the total before shopping. If your budget is already committed, you can still read and share an organization’s public information or look into its volunteer opportunities. Follow its own process rather than assuming every kind of help is available at every location.
Chewy Claus connects its letter campaign with a shelter-adoption initiative this season. That is separate from whether your own pet receives a gift box. A letter does not reserve an adoptable animal, guarantee an adoption or replace a shelter’s screening process. Anyone interested in adopting should review the participating organization’s requirements and ongoing care costs before making that commitment.
Finally, keep a simple holiday record: your optional gift budget, any purchases, any planned giving and any giveaway submission date. Store order receipts and promotion confirmations in separate folders so a marketing email does not get confused with a prize notice. Use the sponsor’s own page to check an unfamiliar message rather than sending information to an unexpected account.
The aim is a thoughtful holiday plan that fits the household you have. Choose items you can use, leave room for regular responsibilities and treat a sponsor’s surprise as an optional extra. When you are ready to review Chewy Claus, use the entry details below and complete the sponsor’s own steps. Freebie Mom Entry Tickets are a separate reward and do not submit that letter for you.

What could your pet receive?
The rules specify 14,000 assorted goodie boxes at $35 each, totaling $490,000, across these categories: Cat Toy, Cat Treat, Multi-Pet, Dog Toy, Dog Treat, Shelter Surprise, Bird, Small Pet, Reptile and Horse. The rules do not provide a quantity for each category. These are random drawings, not first-come free boxes or instant-win results.
How letters help shelter pets
The rules say each group of 200 letters funds one shelter/rescue adoption through Greater Good Charities, up to 4,000 adoptions. The landing page advertises participating-shelter free adoptions December 11–17, 2026. This is separate from your pet’s prize entry and subject to each shelter’s process.
If selected
Rules list mail notifications between November 9, 2026 and January 31, 2027, with a five-calendar-day response/paperwork window where required. Provide an accurate mailing address. A separate portrait-related provision requires an account, pet profile and suitable photo if such a prize applies; do not assume that provision changes the listed box awards.
Claim post tickets once per article per day. Resets at midnight Eastern.
