BAUER MVP Dallas Stadium Hockey VIP Sweepstakes

Wanna win a$5,000 hockey trip?

Two winners each receive a Dallas stadium hockey trip for two, with airfare and two hotel nights.

Giveaway details + how to enter

A refundable hotel rate can cost more upfront, while a prepaid offer may attach stricter conditions to a lower price. The right comparison includes the total stay cost, when payment is taken and what happens if your plans change. None of those answers can be read reliably from the word deal alone.

This guide gives you a practical way to compare hotel cancellation policies before booking. Separately, BAUER MVP is awarding two Dallas stadium hockey trips for two. Those prizes include flights and two hotel nights under the sponsor’s arrangements. The giveaway instructions below explain free member Shots and the postal option; this guide does not change the prize’s booking or travel conditions.

Read the rate conditions for your exact stay

Begin with the actual property, dates, room type and number of guests. Then open the conditions for each rate you are considering. The same hotel can offer different payment and cancellation arrangements for the same night. Keep each price beside its own terms instead of assuming the property has one rule for every booking.

Marriott’s reservation terms explain that cancellation, no-show and change policies can vary by property and reservation type. Other providers also set conditions for specific rates. Read the text shown before payment and the confirmation afterward. If they appear inconsistent, ask the booking provider to clarify the arrangement in writing.

Separate three questions: when money is collected, whether cancellation is permitted, and how much would be returned. Prepaid describes payment timing. Refundable describes a cancellation outcome under stated conditions. Do not assume those words always travel together. A rate can require advance payment and still have a limited refund window, depending on its terms.

Record any deadline as a full date, time and time zone. If the policy refers to the hotel’s local time, note that location explicitly. A reminder based only on your home time zone can be misleading when you are traveling elsewhere. Ask the provider to explain ambiguous wording before choosing a rate that relies on that deadline.

Keep no-show and early-departure rules in view too. Canceling before arrival, arriving late and leaving early are different situations. The amount at risk may differ. A useful rate comparison includes the scenarios relevant to your plan, rather than stopping once you see a free-cancellation phrase in a search listing.

Compare the full price and the flexibility premium

Build a small table with one column per rate. Include the total stay price, payment timing, cancellation deadline, late-cancellation charge and change conditions. Use the same dates, occupancy and room category in each column. Otherwise, a lower total might reflect a different room or fewer nights rather than a better offer.

For a hypothetical two-night stay, suppose one rate totals $360 with restrictive cancellation terms and another totals $410 with a defined penalty-free cancellation window. The flexibility premium is $50 for that comparison. Whether it is worthwhile depends on your plans and the exact conditions. These numbers are examples, not current hotel quotes or a universal recommendation.

Ask what you would do if the event moved, a companion could not travel or you needed to shift the arrival date. Identify which arrangement would be affected and what the policy says. You do not need to predict every possible disruption. You do need to understand the few uncertainties most likely to change this particular booking.

The FTC’s fee-rule guidance explains upfront pricing requirements for short-term lodging, including mandatory fees, with certain charges such as taxes and selected optional services handled separately. Still read the final amount before paying. A price-display rule does not turn a restrictive rate into a refundable one.

Add travel costs outside the room comparison to your broader budget. Parking, transportation and meals may affect which property works best, even when the cancellation terms are similar. Compare the complete plan you would use. A cheaper room farther away is not necessarily a cheaper trip once the extra journeys are included.

Know who handles changes and refunds

Before booking, identify the business taking your reservation and payment. A hotel website, a travel agency and another booking platform may use different support processes. Save the confirmation and customer-service details from the channel you actually used. Searching the hotel’s general policy later may not answer every question about a third-party reservation.

If plans change, review your confirmation first. It should help identify the applicable deadline and the process for canceling or modifying the booking. Contact the responsible provider through its official channel and retain the confirmation of any action. A request sent to the wrong business or an unanswered message is not the same thing as a confirmed cancellation.

Hilton’s cancellation help notes that policies vary with rate type, dates and hotel rules. That is a reason to use your own reservation details rather than a remembered deadline from an earlier stay. Check again if you change dates or rates, because the revised booking may have different conditions.

Ask whether a proposed change creates a new price or reservation. If you are comparing canceling and rebooking, understand the cancellation outcome before purchasing a replacement. Keeping two reservations while assuming one will disappear can create avoidable confusion. Make a simple timeline of what is booked, what is canceled and what still requires action.

If a refund is approved, keep the written confirmation and ask how it will be processed. Track the amount and payment method against your records. Follow up through the provider’s process if something does not match. Do not assume a refund will appear immediately or that a verbal exception has replaced the rate terms without documented approval.

Organize deadlines and understand prize-trip bookings

Keep one folder for the booking, with the original terms, payment receipt, confirmation and later changes. Add a calendar reminder ahead of the cancellation deadline while there is still time to decide. Make the reminder specific: property name, booking number, deadline and the action you need to consider. A vague note saying hotel does not provide much help during a busy week.

Share relevant conditions with anyone whose plans affect the stay. Agree on who will manage the reservation and who should be contacted if travel changes. If friends are splitting costs, discuss the consequences of canceling before one person commits to a restrictive rate. That conversation is easier before payment than after the deadline has passed.

For event travel, confirm the event date and official ticket arrangements as part of the plan. A hotel room and an event ticket can have different change rules. Do not assume a change in one automatically creates a refund for the other. Keep their terms in separate rows of your trip worksheet so you can see what each provider has actually promised.

BAUER’s Dallas prize has its own structure: flights, a two-night hotel stay, game tickets, dinner up to US$300 and a US$250 prepaid card for each selected winner and guest. Travel is tied to the February 20, 2027 game. The sponsor’s rules govern those arrangements; the winner cannot simply choose a different public hotel rate and expect reimbursement.

The giveaway is available to eligible BAUER MVP members using Shots, including a no-purchase postal method described below. It does not require booking a hotel. Read the entry limits carefully because Shots can be allocated across BAUER promotions. Freebie Mom Entry Tickets are a separate reward and do not become BAUER Shots or enter you into the sponsor’s drawing.
